Andre,
Get a job in a restaurant.
If you love the work, then ask your questions. It is impossible to explain this job in a way that you would not only understand but believe.
How much you can make is really limitless but culinary school is really a waste of time and money if you are not suited for the job. And if you go without the basics, you will have no time to learn the finer points that will earn you the big bucks.
Yes it is very hard, very hot work but it is an excellent career if you love it.
There are a lot of really great restaurants in Chicago and I'll bet that several of them have job openings right now.

Wat are the best culinary schools to attend 2 after high school? I'm looking into chicago area or North Carolina areas mainly but open to other options depending on how good the school is…
Actually yes CIA is my dream school but if i were to go i would go to the one in greystone, CA, but the problem is its too far and it costs a lot but who knows im def. not gonna give up on it tho bc i would love to go there!!!
Actually i was looking at johnson wales too bc they came to my school in my culinary class and another reason s bc there is a campus in north carolina..

the best of the best is called the CIA in New York (Culinary Institute of America). I dunno how much it costs, but that's the top..the chicago schools are also well-known. i dont know of any in N.C…

Advice, Art College!?

Im about to enter my senior year of highschool. I love art, so i really want to go to an art school.
My plan is to take up culinary at del tech because they have the SEED program which will allow me go there for two years for free if i keep my GPA above 2.5 which shouldnt be to hard. its a community college so i wont be the most respected chef around but it will get me a better job to help me fund my art college,

my friend suggested “Columbia” in chicago. She goes there now and says its great and as a high acceptance rate.

If i could get some Good art colleges or Advice on my situation, either would help me out in a big way. Thank you!

i hate j henkels, or however you spell it, bought one and right out of the packaging i had to sharpen it! after sharpening, it still was dull that it wouldn't cut paper! i went to culinary school, so i know it should be sharp enough to cut paper. I am not thrilled with chicago cutlery either, but never used them. I cannot get any of the knives i used in school, as they were commercial, but i would like to know if any that are in say, target, kohls, etc… would work well. I also plan on getting a electric shapener, as its time consuming to sharpen with a steal or block. thanks!
just because i went to culinary school, doesn't mean i took culinary, i was pastry! plus, if you come and sharpen my knives for me for 30 min a day, then i will use the 'horner', its called a steal!!!

Well the problem is that JA Henckels has come out with a "mass market" knife that they sell at Target which is crap! It is really bogus because they are taking advantage of their name recognition and selling crap at Target.

It is cheap and as they say you get what you pay for!

The 4 star Henckels that they sell at specialty stores and NOT Traget is decent although still not by any means the best knife out there.

If you want the best then go with Wusthoff (German) or better yet go Japanese and get a Global or beter yet a Shun.

Shun really is one of the best knives on the market. Rather hard to sharpen but once you do it really keeps it's edge which is what you want.

I have a Shun and I use it constantly and I get it professionally sharpened ever 3 months. Under "normal" conditions you would probably have to get it profesionally sharpened every 6 months.

Spend the money and get a Shun!

Can I have a representative appear in court for me If I live out of state.?

I live in Chicago and had a Misdameanor warrant in Minnesota. This past week I traveled back there on a business trip to visit a Culinary Arts school I will be transffering to. I was pulled over and the officer asked did I know I had a warrant and I said yes and he asked did I have $300.00 on me, I did and he wrote me a ticket to appear in court November 06 2007 and he let me go. He also said if I can't appear in court call the number on the ticket. So my question is will I have to show up to court when I live out of state working and attending Culinary School because I have a very busy schedule also visiting other Culinary Schools I will be transffering to down the road. I can make the court date in late January but really don't know If the court will let me or can a representative do it in the court room and If I don't show up will another warrant be put out for my arrest again even though I just got rid of one. Thanks in advance.

As long as you're not pleading not guilty, and demanding a trial, you can have an attorney represent you. You can always request a continuance so you can appear. Call the number on the citation, and make your inquiries.

Cleaning Uniforms For School.?

I'm a culinary student at Le cordon bleu Chicago and I'm in a meat and seafood fabrication class and I wanted to know if there is anyway to get the blood out of my uniforms so I will look presentable for school.
