I am about to goto school in the fall to become a Cosmetologist, I will open up my on salon. But a few years afterwards, I would like to goto Culinary school and open up my own restraunt, in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area.

I just would like to know some real basic information about being a Chef and owning a sucessful restraunt.
Like how much they make, what the odds are of making a business sucessful in a larger town, things like that.

Also, I am currently in college for Business Management, are there any other majors that I should do to own a salon and a restraunt?

take a bunch of accounting classes if you want to own your own business.
A chef can make anywhere from $40K to $100K and up it all depends where they work. But if your thinking about going into restaurant business please be prepared for long long long days. like 8am till 3am type days. You will be on your feet all day long so get some comfy shoes. Making it in the food industry is very hard. Only 1 in 5 restaurants in this country make it past there first year. So be persistent, work hard and have fun, and youll do fine!

is remington college a good option?

i want to study culinary arts in dallas but im not sure iF the school is good, does anybody know how good it is and also does anybody know another schools i can attend to study CA.
P.S. Im a foreign student.

There are many complaints listed at this site: http://www.ripoffreport.com and just type into search 'remington college' or such. Please do steer clear from online, for-profit schools such as university of phoenix, strayer u, ITT tech as they are merely 'out to make a profit'. Former students of university of phoenix started this site: http://www.uopsucks.com

Perhaps you can look into the local county vo-tech school or community college and ask about the procedure for enrollment of foreign students. Please stay away from expensive private career schools too.

I am an exoffender who lives in a shelter in Mckinney,Texas(Samaritan Inn).I am having problems getting an apartment because of my 2nd degree robbery charge that is thirteen years old.(1994).It is very frustrating because I have a 12 year old son that I am taking care of as a single parent. Also, I am due to start Culinary Arts School this month and need an apartment to live in.(2bedroom).

Peruvian Food in the Dallas Area???

I am in Culinary School and every couple of weeks a few of us go out to try different cuisines. I pass by Gran Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurants everyday has anybody ever eaten there and if so what do you think.
About how much does it cost per meal? I would really appreciate the answers.

Great place to eat. Moderately priced. Staff speaks both English and Spanish.

Does anyone know where I can take some cooking classes in the Dallas\Mckinney area?? I don't want to be a chef. I just want to learn how to cook better for my family. I don't want to enroll in "culinary" school. I just want to learn how to make vegetables taste better!!! I want to learn how to cook fish….. in 18 years of marriage there hasn't been a single piece of fist cooked in this house…..not even a fish stick (tuna in a can doesn't count).

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

I do know basics. But I find it hard to "practice" because I have 5 kids and a husband who eventually tire of "experiments."

I have checked the community college (3 minutes from my house) but they only have "culinary school." Too time consuming and too costly.

You might want to check with Central Market, if you have one near you. I know the CM in Southlake has them regularly.

I am about to graduate from culinary school, and I'm trying to find a job. I think I might like to work in event planning. I don't want to start my own business — I want to work for someone else. I live in the Dallas area. How do I break into this field? What kind of training or experience do I need?

Call up event planning companies and tell them you want to get into it. You may need to volunteer your time first. . . . .thats what all wedding planning and event planning professionals say. . . you may also want to volunteer for charity events or other functions so you get experience.

Plan parties for friends and famliy! Thats another good way to get into it and build up a portfolio of centerpieces or other thngs you have made yourself. But after you get all that, call up companes and let them konw you want to help them so you can up your experience and eventually you'll get a job with them when they see how awesome you are!
