Why is an apple charlotte considered a pudding?

I am a pastry student at a culinary school in Chicago, and for extra credit, I need to find out why an apple charlotte is considered a pudding, when it is more of a baked tart or pie type item. Please help, i have been searching online and can't find any answers!

It’s a lore that extends back to the late 18th century when the Charlotte made its first appearance in literature, not as a recipe, as one would expect, but in Joel Barlow’s aptly titled 1796 ode The Hasty Pudding: “The Charlotte brown, within whose crusty sides a belly soft the pulpy apple hides”. Nearly a decade later, the first recipe for an apple Charlotte appeared in Maria Eliza Rundell’s A New System of Domestic Cookery. And it’s a recipe that has remained unchanged since.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that this so-called pud was named in honour of Queen Charlotte, whose reign coincided with the emergence of the sweet treat. She was reputed to possess quite a hankering for a good, crisp apple and to ensure a paradise’s supply of the fruit, the keen amateur botanist fashioned herself as the foremost patron of apple growers.

I am lookin into two culinary schools in Chicago and I would like to know where they rank in status as far as culinary schools go.
I am a perspective culinary student, and I have interviews at two culinary schools in Chicago. I was wondering if anyone had information on how The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago and Kendall College are rated in in the culinary industry. Which is looked upon better in the teaching of cooking skills? And, which is better in the teaching of management skills?

Culinary Management Schools in Chicago?

What is the best school in Chicago for culinary management.? I'm looking for culinary MANAGEMENT, not simply culinary arts. I'm looking for the trade school or university that will give me the best credentials, and thus the best job potentials to become a restaurant manager when completed. Are trade schools better or university-type schools?

I'm currently finding that, although I have management experience AND restaurant experience, I do not have management experience IN restaurants. Will a degree make a difference??

CIA in Hyde Park?

Has or does anyone go to CIA in Hyde Park? I have my AAS in Culinary from another school, and I'm thinking about going to CIs for my BS. Unfortunately, none of the admissions reps want to talk to you unless you're ready to go NOW. Can anyone give me some inside advice on the BS in Culinary Management program? Do you think all of my credits (from Le Cordon Bleu Chicago) will transfer? Is CIA really as hard core as everyone thinks?

I live in Chicago but have a warrant in Minnesota. I recently visited Minnesota and got pulled over and the officer came back and asked did I know I had a warant and I said yes then he asked did I have $300.00 , thats how much my Bail was and I did have it on me. He wrote me out another court date and said If I can't make it call the number on the ticket. The problem is I don't live in Minneosta and was just there on business, looking for a good Culinary school to transfer to. I know I wil not be able to make it on November 06 2007 thats the court date but I am wondering what will happen when I call the clerk office and tell them my situation about me not able to make it and can't affored it rite now, will they just throw another warrant on me if I don't show up for my court date and the same thing happens again and again lol or will they just have a public defender representing me and give him the $300.00 and just throw it out. Thank You in advancefor you guys and girls help

A public defender will not be appointed to represent you. You will either have to satisfy the court by paying the fine, or the warrant will still be active, and the bond will most likely increase. Minnesota will contact Illinois, and your driving privileges will be suspended here.

Some may think its sad that I am turning to YA to ask about this, but I can't talk to my family cause I don't want them to be disapointed in me. So I am a full time student & work full time. I live by myself & two dogs in chicago I am completely burnt out. My heart is in it 100%, but my body is wore out. I get two hours a sleep per night & eat once a day. I can't physically & even mentally do it anymore. I have to work full time because I need to support myself & I can't even hardly do that with working full time.I am also paying for school while Im in school. I can't get any loans because of my credit, my mom is not a round &my dad can't help, but would if he could. There's no one else to turn to. I was sent to the ER for mal nutrition.I can't do this anymore, but I can't quit work or I wont be able to live, so I have to put work before school. I can't work just part time for the same reason. I am in culinary school so it's not part time or full time i have to go by there schedule.
I did go to the counsolors & all they say is you need to quit your job, get hlep, go part time, get a personal loan… I mean I CAN'T do any of those. I feel like there's nothing I can do.. I don't want to withdraw from school because this is my dream, but I cannot do it anymore. If I withdrawl I can go back anytime and pickup where I left off….. What would you do in this situation? Any advice?
ALso i say my credit is bad because I had an immidiate family member steal my identity and ruien my credit before I was even 19… So that holds me back from alot. I also have NO family or close friends here in chicago. I moved here a year and half ago to follow this dream of going to culinary school and all my friends and family are 900 miles away in NC and Va… Also I got a job offer today to work as an executive pastry chef , so I am wondering if I should jus take that job and withdrawl from school… Ahhh im sorry this is so long i am just lost

I think everyone should live out their dreams, but you have to keep yourself healthy and strong, or your dreams will surely go to waste. I know how you feel. I have never had help with my children, not even from my husband. I tried to work, go to school, and take care of the house by myself. Now, my body is worn down and I am on nerve medicine. You are just one person. You can't do it all. You should definetly hold off on school, just until your back on your feet. School will always be there, but right now, your health is much more important.

Wanting to Move to Florida!?

Can anyone please help me? We am thinking about moving to Florida. What cities would have the best chance of us getting a job? Miami? Orlando (which I have always loved)? I am a legal secretary and he is a chef, who has also done a lot of construction work before culinary school. Also, does anyone have any miscellaneous tips too on living in Florida. Thank you so much! I am just growing tired of Chicago and the awful weather and the downtown commute! Any advice is appreciated!

I'd suggest Orlando. Much easier to get around Orlando than Miami or South Florida. It is so beautiful in Orlando. Winter Park is a very nice suburb–has a downtown shopping area that reminds me of some Chicago neighborhoods; some other towns are Kissimmee, Sanford, Deland, Deltona, Daytona Beach, Casselberry, Viera, Winter Garden, Altamonte Springs, and Lake Mary.

Lots of commerce for construction or chefs, and a lot of law firms for a legal secretary.
